iPhone Unlocking Video
A video was posted by iPhoneUnlocking.com that shows a process of software unlocking of an iPhone. The video quality is very poor (shot with Nokia N95) but at least you can see all the steps required:
Hacked iPhone Apps
A short demo of hacked iPhone running several third-party apps: e-book reader, game, IM client. Very promising!
Blogging Services – First Results
After playing with several of free and commercial blog hosting services, here are some results:
- WordPress - currently primary blog, will keep it. I may decide to host a WordPress-based blog myself in the future. It looks like
- TypePad - very powerful, I am tempted to keep it for $4.95/month – still have 5 days to decide whether to keep it. By the way, I have found a very nice template there – Curves Blue – which I happen to like the most from all the templates for all the services I tried so far…
- Vox - will probably keep it for now, but I am not sure if I will ever start using it. I like some of its community features like list of books, etc. but I do not like its heavy layout and ads that I do not control. I may want to play with it for some more time, especially since it shares some features with its bigger brother - TypePad.
- Blogger - will keep it (since it is free) but probably would not use it. Even though it has the cleanest interface of all the services I tried, it is also the most limited in its features – for example, it is not possible to import posts, etc.
- Blogsome - was deleted today without hesitation: it has absolutely no advantages over a regular WordPress-based blog (including a free WordPress.com-hosted blog)
Mac Web Browsers
Interestingly but Mac OS X platform has much more web browsers than I have ever used on Windows.
Let us see – on Windows I used Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox and Opera. Well, there are some other, less-known ones but I have never used them.
Now, on Mac I have used Safari, OmniWeb, Firefox, Camino, Flock, Opera and Shiira. Wow!
Blogsome vs WordPress
It turns out it is the same…
Blogsome is a free blog hosting service which is running WordPress, apparently. At least, this is how I understand it.
It has very similar admin interface (surprise!). Few differences with WordPress that I have found are: a) different set of templates and b) some plugins come preinstalled (but not activated) in Blogsome but not in WordPress.com
Oh, and Blogsome is based in Ireland, for what it worth…

Bug in Nokia E61i SMTP Client Software
I was troubleshooting a strange problem recently. A brand new Nokia E61i smartphone could receive but not send any e-mail. The server configuration has not changed and other mail clients are working fine, so it must be the server.
It is very basic and straightforward configuration – a FreeBSD server running Qmail with SPAMCONTROL patch as SMTP server and BincIMAP as IMAP4 server. This configuration worked perfectly until the client asked to add this shiny new Nokia phone to the mix.
Receiving e-mail via IMAP4 did not pose any problems – it just worked (sans the self-signed SSL certificate which I figured out later) but sending mail via SMTP protocol just did not work at all.
Detalized Phone Bills
I always thought detalized mobile phone bill I get monthly from MTS is very detailed but I changed my mind when I saw what bills iPhone users in the U.S. are getting from their provider – AT&T. Check this out:
A bill that comes in a BOX? 300-400 pages long? Unbelievable…
Talk about saving rain forests in Amazonia…
Microsoft Announces zunePhone
An exclusive sneak peek at the soon-to-be released zunePhone from Microsoft!
I cannot wait to get hold of this new phone. It looks much more promising than the Apple iPhone

Microsoft Surface Parody
Excellent parody on the Microsoft Surface initiative. ROTFL.

Crazy Mac Collection
or “The Man with One Hundred Macs”
Well, I would even call it an obsession – Jeremy Mehrle has 100 (!) Macs in the basement of his house in Missouri. It looks like he has every model Apple has ever manufactured – starting from the original Macintosh. He even has the famous 20th Anniversary Mac which had the $10,000 price tag at the time (but he bought it for $800, apparently).
Not only he has that many Macs but he keeps it neatly organized, well-lighted and powered. A perfect Apple museum, or Mac fan heavens!
